so now it's july tenth, and i'm getting concerned because i haven't heard from my student mentor OR amy sirkis, whom i emailed on the seventh like i was supposed to... am i alone here? or have other people not been contacted also?

btw a big reason for posting this is because I KNOW that as soon as i do, my SM will contact me lol.

I contacted Amy Sirkis on the seventh, got a reply from her on the eighth, and heard from my mentor on the ninth. I’m surprised that you haven’t received a response at all. I wonder if they are just overwhelmed and are working through the emails as quickly as possible.

Sometimes they loose the emails too, as in gets buried in their inbox. I’d try sending a follow up and include everything you had in the first email.

Meh, I’ve found that sending people reminder emails can be really helpful. I’ve had one professor thank me for sending a reminder because the original got lost when he got 360 some emails in the same day.

yea i didnt hear from mine till i emailed them…but my student mentor seems to be too busy to answer questions :(. thankfully people here have been helpful

And to think…I’ve had just the opposite problem. 3 of my 4 mentees have never bothered to respond to me. Perhaps they just don’t have any questions?

way back in the day when I was in college, we didn’t need no stinkin’ mentors =P

but seriously, if you have questions I’m sure people here would be happy to answer them. There’s not really anything you can mess up. Your OAs (orientation aides) will be very helpful when you get to campus.

Mentors received their assignments only a couple of days before the July 1 contact deadline. I wouldn’t be surprised if many mentors missed the initial deadline, because I’m sure they weren’t spending their summers sitting at home waiting for that email to come.

That said, given that it’s been two and a half weeks since assignments have gone out, it’s probably safe to assume that mentors should have checked in and gotten their assignments by now. Even allowing for typical summer work or vacation, I would think you should have heard by now and should email Amy again to see what’s up.

When I was incoming, I was assigned a mentor studying abroad who had access to the internet once a month.

eh, whatever. i just feel kinda bad buggin all you guys on here. come to think of it, tho, i’d prolly feel bad bugging my SM. :

anyways, heard back from ms. sirkis but no SM yet. at this point i don’t really care that much anymore… i’ve gone looking elsewhere for the answers to my questions.
