<p>Another question: Is there an honors track for preps or do all take the exact same level of courses such as humanities and science? I know you take placement tests for math and foreign language.</p>
<p>Hi! The environment is definitely a little bit more intense then our previous schools but it is not extreme or unbearable. The work load is not massive as long as you stay on top of your work. We are not always working or locked up in our rooms and we do in fact have a lot of fun participating in sports, clubs, and other fun activities.When the weather is nicer a bunch of people will organize pick up games on the lawn, you will see people down at the lake, or just hanging out outside. Even when the weather is not so nice, people will watch movies in the common room or hang out in the student center or game room. A repeat prep is someone who feels repeating freshmen year will benefit them academically or for sports. Others repeat just to get the full 4 years at a prep school. It does not put any first time preps at a disadvantage. Humanities and science are a standard level for everyone. Humanities will be the same for everyone till junior year when philosophy, art, and history are no longer required. Science will be the same for everyone till Lower Mid year when you can pick Chem, Bio, or Physics at a standard or AP Level (although AP is not recommended for LM’s) The prep science gives you a basis on fundamental concepts and takes advantage of the lake, biomass facility, and the farm. Math and language everyone will be on their own track because everyone has taken different courses coming into Hotchkiss. Hope this helps! Let us know if you have any more questions.</p>
