Are we not supposed to indent at all on the common app essay? When I try to indent my first paragraph, it automatically gets rid of the indent. It lets me keep my other indents, but I just cliked SPACE five times, instead of pressing Tabs. Any replies are greatly appreciated.

i just didnt indent at all...since it took away all of my indentations for some reason...oh well

stupid online formatting

So how did you show that you were starting a new paragraph?

double space for a new par -- use block, it's easier

I'm confused. How do I double space for a new paragraph; Does that mean that I should hit enter twice between paragraphs? And what's block? Is that notepad? Sorry if these are stupid questions.

if you are word processing (to cut and paste into common app), yes, hit enter key twice, so new paragraph will start a line down.

Block formating, means that the first line is not indented, all lines are left justified. (Some also use it to mean, that the right margins are justified, as well, but that can't happen with the CA).

btw: you can use MS-Word or other word processing program. It's just when you cut and paste, the CA will eliminate special formatting, such as bullets, bold, italics, etc. Adcoms know well the formatting limitations of the CA, and won't hold it against you.

Good luck.

THANK YOU so much, bluebayou. I think that I would've gone crazy obsessing over this if not for your advice, so thank you very, very much.
