independent research and international baccalaureate curriculum?

Some colleges ask if you have done any research/independent study outside of school as part of their application. To be specific, I did a Biology extended essay for which I conducted an experiment. This essay is one of the requirements to achieve an IB diploma. Does the research done for my paper count as part of independent research even though it is based on an in-school curriculum?

I was about to ask this question myself... I'm curious to know the answer!

I think it would...because it's outside of classtime (I'm assuming your school is like mine and expects EE to be done entirely outside of class, although potentially using school facilities/equipment with labs)

^ Yup, it's like extracurricular work, but it's part of the curriculum xD
