Indian Student Applied to UNC, Deferred in Early App

I’m a US citizen studying in India. I am applying for a bio major and have an SAT score of 1500. My GPA is 3.83.
Through 9th and 10th grade, I had a perfect GPA, but my grades dropped in 11th grade- something inevitable in our system. Teachers scale our grades down by 10-15 marks to prepare us for our 12th grade final exams, whose result is a very important aspect of the school’s ranking and overall reputation. Our curriculum is perhaps equivalent to AP level courses, or at least honor level. Mine is Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Mutlimedia and web technology and English under CBSE system. I have decent extra curriculars: I am satisfied with my application in general, barring my 11th grade scores. Still, at the moment, I rank number 1 in my class and my school is number 1 in the country (in its category).
I applied to University of North Carolina at Chapelhill under Early App but was deferred, this year. What else can I do to strengthen my application?
I really, really want to go to UNC.

Your overall profile is pretty good for UNC. EA deferral s not as bad as ED deferral. Given your strong interest in attending UNC, the best thing you could do now is to express such interest to the college in an update, in addition to update on any developments/achievements. Feel free to say why you’re interested in attending the school. BTW, I would wait a few weeks before updating them. Good luck!

UNC is a public university and, by law, must have its freshman class comprised of 82% NC residents.

Because you are a non-resident, that lessens your chances.
Do you have safeties?
