Indiana U School of Journalism VS. University of Maryland: CP School of Journalism

<p>Hi, I'm currently a freshman and Indiana Unviersity Bloomington majoring in journalism, but due to finacial situations back home in Maryland, I may have to transfer to an in-state school there. Both IUB and UMCP have fantastic J-Schools but a degree from which school is better to get me a more prolific career in newspaper and magazine writing? I know UMCP has the advantage of being close to Washington but IUB has a more renowned history and newspaper. I also have an interest in possibly working for the CIA as an open source officer and I know CIA recruiters go to UMPC frequently (my sister, a UMCP alum was nearly recruited), but I don't know if they visit IUB.</p>

<p>Putting money matters aside, which would be a better choice? I want to write for big-name papers and magazines (Washington Post, Rolling Stone, etc.) and maybe head into the CIA later in life. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.</p>

<p>Either is an excellent choice for journalism. Your career opportunities will not suffer if you transfer to CP. In fact, I'd venture a guess that UMd. CP will be a more recognizable name to most of media located in the northeast/middle atlantic corridor. I always advise j-students to go to the school with the best internship opportunities. While IU is a terrific school, UMd's proximity to internship opportunities in both D.C. and Baltimore simply make it a better choice in my mind for your particular situation.</p>
