Industrial and Systems Engineering

Does anybody here have an experience studying Industrial and Systems Engineering?

I’ve been set on business for the longest time; but as of late, I have been leaning more towards becoming an ISE major. The quantitative skills seem to be highly sought after in the business world. I think it would also help with gaining admittance into some high level MBA programs.

Please, share your experiences!

I’m an ISE. It’s great and recommend it 110%. It sounds like something that fits your interests, I’ve heard it described as a business degree on steroids. If you have any more specific questions, let me know.

Check out UF’s ISE website for info on the major.

I’m an international student from India and I’ll be starting college at University Of Alabama in Huntsville this fall. I have been reading about careers and majors and Industrial&Systems Engineering caught my interest. I would like to work in USA by extending my visa to OPT. What are the job opportunities for international students in this field and what is the starting salary ?

The average starting salary of an entry-level industrial engineer is between $55,000 and $65,000.

See this Payscale site for some details. Starting location has a significant impact on salary, based on that areas cost of living.

Many ISE jobs are outside of the defense industry, so that makes them easier to acquire for international students (who will not need a security clearance). If you have a student login, go to the UAH career services website, log in and check out what employers are hiring and for what positions.

Finally, here’s a list of employers at the recent UAH spring Career fair (note that the Fall fair is much larger, while the spring fairs tend to have smaller companies recruiting). Look at the companies hiring college of engineering graduates:

Good Luck!

Do you have any idea about jobs which are easier to acquire for international students ??

Hi, Since you’re a student at UAH, I would first recommend you attend one of the Industrial engineering related student group meetings. The Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE) and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME). Other students can tell you want internships and companies they are getting and much more about being an ISE at UAH.

Also, use linkedin to view what type of jobs UAH grads are getting…
