What would you guys consider the best laptop for an industrial engineering major? Does it need an i7 processor or will i5 be fine?
Any suggestions or explanations will help
It depends on your budget. Memory is more important than the processor type. The number of cores go up as you progress from i5 to i7 to i9, but that is only really helpful in a multi-threaded application like Matlab. Get at least 16Gb of RAM. Also get a fast SSD, don’t get a regular drive (budget permitting).
If you get a Mac, you will also need a Windows Virtual machine app like Parallels or VMWare Fusion.
Your university may have free or low cost software.
My son’s in Industrial. Nothing to special what you have now would probably work. Most times your hooking into the school server. My son wanted a MSI gaming computer and he got a thin version that is actually light. At Costco they have some nice Lenovo for great prices.
Depending what your budget is but I like I7 with 16 g Ram but most i5 will do.
He so also into Augmented /mixed reality so having a 1060 video card was good for him. If no gaming then you can safe money
