Can some people tell me about industrial engineering?
I've heard about it but am not quite grasping what exactly IE's do or study.
Thank you!

Effeciency

Varies from school to school.

Some schools have more of a manufacturing slant in their I.E. program.
Some schools have more of a applied math/operations research slant in their I.E. program.
Some schools have more of a systems engineering slant in their I.E. program.

I may be biased because of my employment (and graduate degree) but I would choose a more systems engineering slant.

you might want to google your questions or do a search in the forums because this question has been answered many times before.

Among other things, IE is largely focused on using math to find the optimal use of limited resources to lower costs/improve process/increase efficiency of company operations. They work alot in manufacturing, logistics and transportation.
