Hi

Recently was accepted into H&SS and offered admission into theQuantitative Social Science Scholars Program (QSSS). I was wondering if anyone had any more info about since the cirrculum sheet on the website was confusing. Also if anyone is currently in it, what are your opinons of the program. I am looking to major in economics asd possibly math and wondering if it is a program worth pursuing.

Thanks for any help!

Hey kmsn4321!

I was offered admission into the program too and don’t know much about it either. I’ve been trying to find reviews online but haven’t been able to get any. I feel like the program is relatively new (part of the reason they expect 15 students) so no one’s posting anything. I plan to visit Carnegie and ask them about it there. Let me know if you hear anything!

Oh, huh, this is new. I had heard they were replacing some floors in Mudge House with some programs, but I didn’t know it was this program until now.

It’s a new program, so you guys will be the guinea pigs if you sign up. Take that as you will. They’re probably not going to have much information for you just because… they haven’t done a test-run yet and they don’t quite know how the program will work. Keep in mind that Mudge is an awesome place to live, and very hard to get into as regular decision admittees, so you might want to consider the program.

I also got into this program, and im also in the dark about what it means exactly.
I’m going to the diversity weekend next weekend , and i will ask more about this program when im at CMU. Ill report my findings

Are any of you going to the sleeping bag sunday next weekend?

If you’re interested in econ/math and you were accepted into QSSS, go for it. The info on the website is sparse, but it seems to me like a program that focuses on statistical analysis of social science-related stuff. As said, it seems to be a new program. If you’re going to ask someone about it, see if you can email whoever’s the director of the program, because nobody else will have any idea what you’re talking about.

In any case, you could probably leave the program if you decided to completely change your major.

EDIT: Also check out [this thread](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/carnegie-mellon-university/1119664-shs-qsss.html).

Hi guys,

I am a current Decision Science/ Computer Science student in the QSSS program. Here’s the new website that does not turn up on google search for some reason: [Quantitative Social Science Scholars Program - Carnegie Mellon University](QSSS - Quantitative Social Science Scholars Program - Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences - Carnegie Mellon University)

The program is fantastic, and we get very interesting guest speakers who talk about diverse topics in the social sciences. If you got accepted, I recommend you talk to Professor Golman about your interests and long-term goals to see if the program is right for you. You’ll get to take new courses that are being developed just for students in the program and get group housing in Mudge.

Hi guys, I was also accepted to the qsss program. I talked one on one with professor Goldman today during the sleeping bag event about the program. There is indeed cluster housing in Mudge, in addition to the hsp program also clustered in Mudge.

Program is pretty much all in the title. Social sciences supported by a serious quantitative background. He mentioned that it is similar to a program formed at northwestern not too long ago. Likely job fields in economics, finance, etc.

I am in QSSS and SHS so, I’m really confused…

And can you quit QSSS after a year or in the middle?

I got accepted to Carnegie Mellon and I’m weighing the two…
Since this post has been up for a while, what was the final decisions you guys made and how do you guys like it?
