Info about the $388 million University of Florida Cancer Hospital

<p>The construction industry as a whole may be limping along in the current economic slowdown, but work on the Shands at the University of Florida Cancer Hospital is still right on pace for a fall 2009 completion.</p>

<p>The Gainesville Sun Tour guests make their way into the tunnel that will connect Shands at UF to the new Shands Cancer Hospital and runs under Archer Road last week during a tour of the new facility. Brad Pollitt, Shands vice president for facilities development, is overseeing the $388-million project. Construction is "absolutely on schedule," according to Pollitt. It is also on budget.</p>

<p>UF is making great strides in the cancer research area. Let’s not forget the recent partnership with Moffit in Tampa.</p>

<p>UF also is building a 50,000 square foot facility with the Burnham Institute (which happens to be smack-dab in the middle of UCF’s Lake Nona Campus).</p>

<p>Yes. The funny thing is that UCF people are trying to claim partnership with Burnham when in fact there is no such thing.</p>

<p>I would feel bad having another state university in the center of my campus. This is what happens when you sell your soul for a medical school I guess…</p>
