Information about SC colleges from a friend

Cali Trumpet and Slugmom thanks so much! I hadn’t ever thought about Merrill but will encourage her to do so. We are visiting in a couple of weeks

As a C10 student, I would partially agree that Crown/Merrill have the quieter social scenes and more academically focused students. However, Crown/Merill does have a bit of drug use (mostly pot) so these two colleges really don’t live up to their reputation of “sterile Merrill.”

^ I agree, but compared to 9/10 from my experience, it is a whole lot more sterile.

I don’t think that any dorm on any public U campus is truely sub free 100% of the time so it doesn’t shock me that Crown and Merrill have pot smokers. D just would like a quiet studious environment that is mostly free from vomit and huge parties.

I’m not sure if this is true of all the colleges, but I thought quiet hours were 10pm Sunday to Thursday for everyone and extended to 2am? on Fridays and Saturdays.

From what I hear, at Crown, there is a substance free floor and if you so choose to live there, this means that if you are caught with substances in your room you get kicked out of on-campus housing on the first offense. But, the amount of drinking that occurs varies. Last year, there were a couple of hard drinkers on my floor. This year there are fewer. On the floor below me this year it seems everyone drinks.

As for really enjoying outdoor activities, there is an outdoorsy associated “house” every year.

From my experience, in the dorms, its pretty much impossible to throw a huge party without getting caught. So the first year shouldn’t be a problem, second year though most people move into the apartments in which case large parties are a fact.

Student activities? There are so many. They have all the RA’s host 10 activities a quarter. So with 16 RA’s, theoretically there are 16 activities in a given week.

I hope this helps… Maybe a little?

A Quaint Cafe’ thanks for the thoughtful and thorough post. It was very sweet of you and it helps a lot. Are you a Crown student?

Would one suggest a PoliSci/History major to reside at Merrill? (because the polisci professors are also situated there)

I’m not into drugs, much more people. Study focused, but not to the death of me. Would Merrill be a good choice? It is what I’m leaning towards.

Bytheway, transfer student.

Yea Merrill is a pretty chill place. It does not really matter that the poli sci professors are there, because your classes will be scattered around campus a bit more. You will definitely find people who are into their schoolwork there though, which seems like a good fit for you.

Can someone suggest a college that would fit me?

Business Management Economic major

I am going to be a freshman, planning to stay in a dorm.

I don’t do drugs!!! I want to stay focus

Writing is not one of my best subject.

Thank you so much.

This editorial might help, but I would suggest Colleges Nine or Ten.
