What information will FAFSA send to the colleges I listed on my fafsa form?

I live in and graduated from high school in the state of the college that I was accepted at.
My parents are moving to another state before I start college, but I will be getting my own place.

What will my residency state be?

Will FAFSA report to the school my parents address in the other state?

The address you put on the FAFSA will be the address that is sent to your college. I believe the address of your parents will need to be listed. You will need to contact the college regarding your state of residency. This will vary by state. In most places, you will be considered a resident of the state in which your parents RESIDE when you start school, not when you are accepted.

When you submit your FAFSA, it will have the address at which you and your parents reside. BUT please be aware that it is YOUR responsibility to notify the school of your change in address. The bottom line is that the following year when your parents complete their taxes, it will be very apparent that they live elsewhere. THEIR address is considered YOUR permanent address. It doesn’t matter that you are residing in another state for the purpose of attending school.

The bottom line…be honest. It sounds like you are trying to figure out a way to continue to have instate residency where you currently reside. If I picked up on that…the schools surely will.
