A job well done to all the people that have used their precious time in contributing to this topic. I took my time to read, search and assimilate some of the suggestions been given out here. May the good Lord bless you richly. My question is this; If after getting admission into a college or Uni of about $12k-$15k including room and board. If I was able to get the total expenses for the first year, will I be able to argument myself out over there for the subsequent years tuition and fee without getting any help from home because it is not forthcoming? Please I need your sincere contribution and answers before embarking on the journey. Thanks once again to you all.

The first year of your financial aid will be the best that you will get. Loan money might increase more, but you still will owe that money. The university already has you on the campus, so why would they need to increase your financial aid?

Each university has a limited amount of money to attract the best and brightest students that it can get. Typically, those limited dollars go to domestic students (US citizens and permanent residents) in their first year. If you arrive to your university expecting to persuade them to give you more money, that will not work.

International students are accepted because they are expected to be full pay. Most of the US Scholarship dollars are limited by what and who they are allowed to fund, by a standard of requirements and laws. So, the financial aid officers hands are tied. They couldn’t distribute monies, even if they wanted to, because they have to stick to the rules regarding each scholarship; if they don’t follow the rules, the universities risk losing their monies.

We have a saying here: “you get what you get, and you don’t pitch a fit”.
So, don’t come here with the intention of begging for more money, especially if you are already funded; begging will just get them to review your file very closely and they may reduce your dollars. That seems to happen a lot.

Thanks for your input…
