I go to an inner-city high school, and I'm afraid it's going to hurt my chances of getting in the college I want to attend. My school is actually very unique-- while it is definitely inner-city (gangs, projects, etc), some of the students there come from the wealthiest families in the city. That doesn't make any sense at all, but it's true. We have an IB program, and 7 AP classes. The students that perform well generally do great in college. BUT... the average SAT score is below 1000/1500 (i think). Some years my high school doesn't even make that stupid No Child Left Behind list.
Will I be at a disadvantage because of my high school? I'm applying (scholarships, too) to private LACs.

i don't think it will affect you too much. after all, it's not really your fault that you go to a bad school but still want to succeed.

It could help, many top schools are actively looking for low income kids. It helps a lot if you're a URM though. Your stats need to be high enough to show you can do the college work.
