I thought I basically knew where I was going.... Santa Clara with a half tuition scholarship. But on Friday I found out that I got into USC where I never thought I was going to get in. I wouldn't get any scholarships there. Money is a definite factor in my decision. I'm a political science major with an emphasis in pre-law, and I'm not sure how comprable their programs are to one another. I'm definitely going to go look at both schools again. Does anyone have any input on this really tough decision? Any advice would help because I have no idea what to do...

USC is more reputable of course, but Santa Clara is a fine university in a very pleasant setting. USC is large, Santa Clara is mid-sized. USC has incredible school spirit and a very strong, far-reaching alumni network, Santa Clara doesn't. If your intent is to go to Law school right after you graduate, I really don't think it makes that big a difference whether you go to USC or Santa Clara. And since Santa Clara is giving you a big scholarship, I would actually recommend Santa Clara. However, if you should decide to hit the work-force when you graduate, USC may serve you better.

For the same financial aid, it's not clear to me that USC is a better pick than Santa Clara, unless perhaps you are a So.Cal. hard-core type who wants to take advantage of the alumni network there, or you want to go to film school, or you insist on big sports.

I know of a Santa Clara grad who then went to HLS and other big time glory.

Law school is expensive. Go to the one that costs less.
