One week and counting waiting on test results in Missouri. Not very useful if we want to do contact tracing.
Thatās awful! Have you called them? What did they tell you was the turnaround time? I would email the local press, to be honest.
You can call, but no one answers or responds to voice mails. I donāt really want to get involved with the press, bit it is frustrating.
You could call it in or email anonymously. This needs to be public in your area - its outrageous!
What is the lead time in general? Is a week too long? My D in CA took the test as part of a survey. She didnāt get the result within the week. More like two weeks or longer.
Long turnaround times for test results would be a nightmare for contact tracing if the folks tested donāt choose to self isolate while awaiting results. 7+ days sounds so much longer than the hours and less the White House touted.
Our state used to take 7-10 days for results but has faster results now that more labs instate are qualified to provide interpretation and results.
At my facility labs are taking 3-4 days (used to be 1-2)
Hereās a treatment protocol from a medical school.
Is contact tracing is a realistic option? I just read in some county of NY, they were having a party for over 100 and multiple people got infected. Some of the infected people attended the second or are attending another party for over 100. How do you contact trace that?
Two weeks ago, I had a Covid test on Saturday and got results on Monday. The turnaround at this point should be no more than four days, and even that is too long.
Around here, the word is that going to a doctors office or hospital gets faster results than going to a pharmacy of county drive in center.
For those wondering, the new nasal tests are not uncomfortable at all and the swab just goes halfway up your nose. No more digging into your brain.
I think it must vary by location. My son got a not-brain swab with results the next day. My father, in a different state, had the brain swab and it took a week to get results. They are in MA and IL respectively.
Contract tracing and rigorous testing are needed together. As cases spike, there will more difficulty in getting tests done or processed quickly. And many states do not have the recommended number of contact tracers. So unless there are lots of tracers and lots of quick-results testing, the program will not work the way it could.
And then there are the people who do not answer the phone when the contact tracers call.
Some of the people in NY were being non compliant with the health department contact tracers and finally started cooperating when threatened with subpoenas. They were going to fine those people per day if they didnāt cooperate. Not really sure how I feel about thatā¦
@Mom22039 thanks for sharing that treatment protocol!
On another note, my SIL had to go to an emergency room this past Sunday for what ended up being a burst appendix. From the info we have gotten from our D and SIL, he was never tested for COVID. I was shocked. Can they test for it through blood work? It was a hard few days after the surgery as my D could not see him and there were a couple complications. But he is home now and all is well, thank goodness.
Our turnaround time for COVID tests at Quest used to be 36 hours. Itās now 3-4 days. We are in a low-incidence state, but were told that increased demand from the states that are spiking is affecting turnaround time for everyone. Presumably this is less of an issue for labs in low-prevalence areas that are notpart of a national or regional chain.
@CMB625 ā our hospital tests everyone who is admitted. There is no blood test; just the swab.
@CIEE83 thanks for the info. They definitely never swabbed him. I was shocked.
Thanks for sharing that regimen. Based on what i have read from many sources including nyt magazine june 9. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/06/09/magazine/covid-vaccine.html I would do famotidine and vitamins at home. I want early treatment with remdesivr and a steroid.
How does one know which hospital to go to get remdesivir? I wouldnt want a placebo. I would pay the $3,120 or upwards. But how does one even check into a facility that gives early remdesivir? I am in NY.
Also the EVMS regimen calls for aspirin. Is the consensus to use aspirin rather than acetaminophen?
Did they swab him while he was asleep for the surgery or in recovery? Or while he got pain medicine in the ER? Hopefully, he was tested and just doesnāt know it.
@naviance he went to an Urgent Care first and no test there, then to the ER. No test while he was awake. If they did swab him before surgery while he was sedated (which was a while after he arrived at the ER as they wanted to do a CT scan with contrast), he was not told he had been tested.
So unless there are lots of tracers and lots of quick-results testing, the program will not work the way it could.
That is another way of saying contact tracing is not realistic and we canāt hang our hopes on it.
