Insight on PPL?

Currently, American is my first choice. I love the school and I love the PPL program–however, if I don’t get accepted into the PPL program, I most likely will not attend due to the price.
So I’m just looking for some insight on how competitive admission is to the PPL program, how many kids are selected, etc?
I read somewhere that like 20/160 applicants were accepted last year, the program’s first year. If this remains true, judging by the # of ED applicants that got into PPL, I think it’s safe to assume that there are only a few slots left and that worries me.
Anyone have any insight on this?

No. It’s only 25 people per year for PPL. I know because I’ve researched American pretty thoroughly, and I applied as well. Last year, over 400 people applied. Supposedly, more than 25 kids will be picked because many people end up not liking it, so they always need to pick more. I don’t know about the ED thing, but there should be more than enough spots left, probably.

I’m confused. What does price have to do with the PPL program?

I think what conflicted means that American is an expensive school, and that if he doesn’t get into the prestigious PPL program, then it isn’t worth for him to shell out a lot of money for the school.

Thanks for explaining that arrozconleche.

conflictedb3 – I don’t think it’s wise to use the all or nothing approach when choosing a university… Admissions wise the odds are against you and you’re basically saying AU isn’t worth attending unless you get admitted to join a program that just started… last year? Think about it…

She, I’m a she.
I understand what you’re saying, but I think you misunderstood. American would be very, very expensive for me and my parents (the people who help pay for college) most likely wouldn’t pay unless they felt I was getting the best opportunities I could. I’m also applying to GW for political comm, and GW would cost less for me so if I were lucky enough to be accepted into both schools overall and not accepted into PPL, I would most likely choose GW due to costs.
It’s not that I don’t love American, it’s that I’m poor.

@arrozo can you source some of that? (I know that sounds rude, I just would like to read some of the info myself)

That is what AU says about the first cohort.

For some reason, I could have sworn that more people applied and that there were more spots. I guess I remembered incorrectly. Sorry about that.
