Inspiration is elusive.

Every time I sit down on a day I've set aside for working on supplement essays, my mind goes completely blank. I cannot think of what to write. For anything. Any of my questions, ranging from the more straightforward essays and short answers to the UChicago ones. I just have no inspiration, no ideas. I'm just so stressed about this college application thing that I think I'm preventing myself from moving forward, but I don't know how to.

Advice? Please? Early action due dates are swiftly approaching and I'm worried that I'm not going to have essays done in time..

Princeton Review’s “College Essays that Made a Difference” really helped me. It shows you what constitutes a stellar essay, and I was actually really suprised by the range of topics (one guy wrote about the lessons his dad taught him, another girl wrote about why she is a Snickers bar as opposed to a Cheerio, both were incredible!) I was in the same scary situation as you a few weeks ago, when my essay topic idea just sorta popped into my head. My advice is to think of the small things–music/art/a character that’s made an impression on you, something someone said to you…I wrote about a piece of artwork. Before starting to write I thought that applying my attraction to the artwork to some bigger theme would totally be a stretch, but actually writing the essay forced me to do a ton of reflection and opened my eyes up to the fact that the piece actually taught me a lot! Hope this helps a bit :)

I believe that every person has a perfect match college. The kind of supplements somehow reflect the kind of applicants that colleges want. You might find certain colleges whose supplements perfectly match yours. Well i am giving an idiotic advice but thats how it is. You should have done extensive research previously. Well Essay Collectiions like princeton reviews only give you idea what can be included, not what should. What should be included is entire personel. Dont get ideas from them. Explore yourself. May be take a free evening, walk to a park, spend few hours, question yourself who are you, what are your interests, what do you want to do with yourself or your life and so on. Explore yourself. If you discover yourself, supplements are piece of cake.
