OK so I live in a town west of boston, basically about 40 kids from my HS go to Umass Amherst each year. I hate high school and I want to sort of get away from a lot of the kids in my school. So is it easy to get away from a lot of these people? Is it easy to start over at an in state school where theres about 120 kids from you HS there and more coming each year?

At a large university, you only need to see your HS classmates when you want to. The chances are pretty slim that they will end up in any classes with you, or even in your same residence. Don’t worry about this!

I agree with happymom, your not going to end up running into many people you know. There may be a lot of kids going there but Umass is a large school and many people are going to be in different departments, living areas and have unique schedules. Even if you do end up running into someone you don’t like your most likely just going to end up briefly saying ‘hi’ to them then going your separate ways.

I doubt you would constanly run into students from high school but if you do I doubt it would be awful, and running intothe students would be different from having classes together or participating in the same organizations ( which surprisenly could be more likely).

So is it easy to get away from a lot of these people?

While I agree that at a large state school, you won’t often run into old classmates.

That said, if you have the money and the stats, you can easily get away.

What is your situation? How much will your parents pay?

What are your stats?

What is your major?

I rarely see people I graduated with at my college. If you WANT to see them, you will but otherwise don’t worry about it.
