Intellect is a bane.

I think my applications should receive special consideration… I’m so smart it’s a disability.

TCBH nailed it.

I’m going to bring statistics into this mess.

80% of the population believe THEY are smarter than the average population, (Not possible of course, only 50% can be.)

Back then in the SAT they had a little survey. They asked if you believed your intelligence was in the Top 1%. 20% bubbled this.

Illusory superiority is a cognitive bias that causes people to overestimate their positive qualities and abilities and to underestimate their negative qualities, relative to others. . It is one of many positive illusions relating to the self, and is a phenomenon studied in social psychology.

Whats also interesting is that there is also the Downing effect: the people below average IQ think they’re above it, while the others who are smarter and above the average think they’re below

Not sure how this works evolutionary, probably just a way to protect our egos and keep the dopamine going.

Nope, I don’t think it’s your intelligence–you probably just live in Soviet Russia.

Okay Stevie Ray Vaughan. <- sarcasm

lol@metatroll

yeah that comes off as arrogant. =)

no offense, but i really doubt that you’re THAT smart. there are very few truly above average people. most people are average. which would make sense.

i personally wish i were smarter. smart enough to not overanalyze every minute thing so much so that it drives me crazy, and just accept things as whole entities and not little parts pieced together.

everyone thinks that they’re smarter/prettier than they are. it’s pretty normal. 99% of people are probably roughly the same in intelligence as you, for better or worse.

hAhAha i lol’ed

I never thought about wanting to be dumber though… Probably because I’m average and never thought myself as being different from everyone else

Only if it’s a normal curve

There are plenty of probability distributions where the mean and median are equal.

Then my life’s work is complete.

^^ What gives you the authority to tell ME about math??? EH??? EHHH???~

If we were going by IQ, 68% of a normal curve are +/- 1 SD from the mean (i.e., IQ of 100, exactly “average”). 1 SD above the mean is “truly above average,” in that is represents a significant difference from “average.”

What? 0.o Only people within one standard deviation of you are of roughly the same intelligence. 99% of all people are not roughly of the same intelligence, even if you’re average.

I don’t know of anyone else, but I’ve been overestimating the intelligence of my classmates and teachers. I only recently realized that I intimidate most of my teachers. I’m so ready to get to college.

lolololol u mad?

OP…are you being serious?

Why exactly do you wish you were dumber? You think less smart people are enjoying life more? You can still be smart and be a fun/outgoing person. Not everything has to be 100% serious all the time. If you keep up this attitude than you’re just going to feel more miserable.
Take a break. Go ride a roller coaster, eat some cotton candy and have a good time with some friends. Don’t get trapped in your own thoughts and act like you’re too good for “the common people”…

What does being fun have to do with being outgoing? Outgoing people can suck a nut they are boring and don’t know anything about Schopenhauer and Diaghilev and ****.

wait what the **** am I talking about I love the smiley people

***** yeah* schopenhauer

I am smart enough to know that I am not smart. I get perfect grades, but with a little nibble of greatness comes a great hunger for more, which is highly unlikely. The smarter I get the dumber I feel, and the more “scratching the surface” I can see.

It is not so much about wanting to be dumber as it is wanting to gain happiness from easier goals/sources.

Ok Engineerjw nailed it.

The Dunning Kruger effect where people believe they have total knowledge of something but only when they dig deeper do they realize how much they don’t know.

Therefore less intelligent people think they’re smarter as they don’t realize how much there is to know in the world, while inversely the intelligent ones realize how little they know.

Something like Socrates.

My massive intellect is often a burden.
