To apply for Emory Scholars I have to write a 750 words essay on 1-2 of my intellectual interests. I was wondering if I should write concerning my major? Also if you have any examples of intellectual interests, please post them! It would help the brainstorming! Thanks :)

I am a freshman in the Emory Scholars program, and I did not write about my major for the intellectual interest essay because I am very undecided about my career path and major. The great thing about the Scholars program is that they actually encourage exploring lots of different academic disciplines before you declare anything. Write about something you really enjoy and are passionate about; really, you can make anything sound intellectual, so just write an essay that reflects something important about you!

What all these “essays” are about is telling the admissions or scholarship reader something about you. If you have a passion for Viking migrations (like I do), that could be a good topic. If you (presumably) don’t share that interest, what are your own passions?
