Intended major and subschool impact?

This may seem like a stupid question, but does your intended major and subschool(A&S, Management) have an impact on your acceptance chance? For example, I want to study history. If a school does not have a lot of kids studying history and a lot going for another subject, will I have a better chance of getting in?
I know this is oddly phrased so feel free to ask me to elaborate so you can understand. Thanks a bunch!

it all depends on the school. Some schools admit by major, some by college (Letters&Science, Fine Arts, etc), some do not care about your intended study field.

Separate schools within the university will have separate admissions rates. The different between one intended major and another within the same school is negligible, though it may be a slight boost to put down an unrepresented major if you have the demonstrated interest and accomplishment to back it up.
