I have another question. Ds interest are journalism, media and French. Even if AP classes were offered - she would only be interested in English, French and possibly one of the histories. Am I correct in assuming AP classes are more important on a transcript for students who which to pursue math or science in college?

jmmom, to be honest I dont know if they send an append along with the transcripts. I will add that question to my list of questions for her counselor. There are honors classes sort of. The classes are integrated - at the beginning of the year students wishing to take the class as honors sign a contract agreeing to do the extra assignments for honors credit. D is a freshman and has honors English. This option was not available for French. I have been told the English class will be listed as honors on her transcript but her A is given the same weight (4.0) as a child in the class who did not contract to do the extra assignments. When I was in HS, honors A was 5 points, B = 4 points
..
Is Ds HS the norm now?

tutu - You are so wise/lucky to have found cc now. Your D is a Freshman so you will learn tons between now and when you "need" it. Of course, that just gives you the opporunity to feed your obsession for that many more months and years (lol).

Re GPA weights: I don't think Ds grading system is the norm as you will see on many posts describing GPA of #.#unweighted, #.# weighted. But, at most schools we visited, the colleges in effect "throw out" the HS calculation of weighted GPA as they have become aware of how great the differences are among HSs in the way these are calculated (my own PHS just adjusted the method to be more 'equitable'). They take the raw grades and do their own calculation.

Others on cc know a lot more than I, but my best suggestion to you is to stay here for all you will learn, but also to start visiting websites and reading materials from colleges you think will interest D. Find out how they handle these types of things and how they will view the Running Start vs. Ds in-school course offerings.

jmmon, thanks again for the advice and words of encouragement. I thank my lucky-stars for finding CC when I did.
