Interesting Article on Urban Universities

<p>Alas, decades old traditions such as the Southburg are no longer. Most south campus denizens emblazoned their initials on the low plaster ceiling with a Bic lighter. Ah tne memories.</p>

<p>Columbia is under siege by outraged students and members of the community for continued plans to expand into Manhattanville in Harlem. People say it's not revitalization but gentrification.</p>

<p>Penn is fortunate that it was able to purchase about 25 acres contiguous to its campus from the U.S. Postal Service. This will avoid the problems that Columbia faces with its community - some of which stems back to the Morningside Heights gym project in the 60's</p>
