Hi GUys! I have a average gpa at 3.83 UW, took 5 weighted classes junior yr and all honors sophomore year, the most rigorous schedule possible at my school. I have a 2260 SAT Superscore, taken twice. However, I have a hook as I have started an official company that makes mobile apps, one an international competition for this and have had research at a university, started my own non profit, and a ton of coding experience. I am going to apply for Electrical engineering, do you think I could get into one of the following, can they overlook my mediocre gpa/test scores but see that I have many extracurricular/ hard schedule.
University of Michigan
Dartmouth College
Upenn
Emory
CMU
Columbia
NYU stern
RIce
USC
Cornell
Which wall street targets do i have a chance at? THanks!
Why do you care about Wall Street targets if you’re majoring in EE?
3.83/2260 is not mediocre.
Emory does not offer electrical engineering. Nearby Georgia Tech has an outstanding program however.
@bodangles my profile has a lot of technical coding experience/hardware experience so I think I have a higher chance at applying EE even though I want to do finance/economics.
So what, are you going to try to switch after you get in? Make sure that’s actually feasible at those schools. Your grades in engineering prereqs may be lower than what you would need for automatic switching, or maybe you have to apply all over again to the business/arts & sciences school. That’s not a very secure plan, if that’s what you think you’re going to do.
EE is actually going to be harder to apply to, imo
apply to CS programs instead of EE programs unless you LOVE MATH AND PHYSICS.
EE is a killer major.
I just want to get in first and want to gurantee that I can get into the school. Is economics gonna be tougher to get into at top schools like ( Penn CAS, Dartmouth, Michigan) than engineering? My profile has a lot of engineering experience and not really any economics EC’s.
@bodangles That was my intial plan, but I want to apply to ensure I have the highest chance to get in first.
Economics is not a major that colleges expect HS students to have a lot of prior experience in.
I think you would be better applying as a CS/ Business or Economics major.
Plus , there are many more International students applying for EE programs than business or Economics programs at those schools.
@menloparkmom Do you think Economics is highly impacted major ie a lot of kids applying for it as big finance schools such as Dartmouth, Penn
Your other posts say that you have a 2290 SAT suoerscore instead of a 2260. Not that it matters much but which is it?
typo 2290
OP
Check to see if you HAVE to declare your major at those colleges.
I dont think you do at Dartmouth- Penn I’m not so sure about…
@menloparkmom you are correct. Dartmouth doesn’t even want to talk to students about declaring a major until they are Sophomores.
I am applying to all of those hopefully I can get one!
