Intern in an iBank

I have always seen posts by other members in the High School threads that they once had a job as an intern in an iBank or a prestige firm. How is this possible? I thought that the starting point is an intern as an undergrad or an emerging senior or an associate that is getting an MBA. I have been looking/calling iBanks but it seems all of there positions are only available to people in college.

With that said, I have been accepted to a top university for business majors and I decided to take a gap year before starting my undergrad year. It is possible for me to land a intern position at one of these firms? If so how would you go about doing it?

Goldman Sachs has a program for seniors who just graduated, but I think it's for like minorities or something.

I knew of no one at columbia who had finance experience prior to college. a select few got internships after their sophomore year as well as after their junior year, but that was it.

Yeah, it seems the goldman sachs internship is only available to minorities (maybe through SEO or Inroads).

TopCEO, I'd certainly give a shot at Inroads. While it certainly may not land you the best financial job currently, it beats a lot of the run of the mill summer jobs.

It's easy for a graduating Senior to state that they like "Investment Banking" but until a student can tell me the difference between M&A and S&T, their opinions of their future careers don't exactly matter much.

Do not waste this summer.

Try Mellon Financial to get a name atleast through the door. They were one employer that I saw hire high school interns. While it certainly isn't investment banking, it does do asset management for various institutions. This will carry, somewhat, through your years.

A kid from my school last year recieved a summer internship at Goldman Sachs. He's not a minority, but I think his dad has connections. He's a freshman at princeton right now.
