Okay so I’m probably going to sound ungrateful but hear me out. I was accepted into NYU Tisch last year for undergrad film/tv. I recieved pretty much a full ride (ish) with a $66,000 tisch scholarship plus federal grants/loans to cover the rest. The thing is I’m not so sure I want to do film and instead am interested in a social work degree from NYU Silver. If I do an internal transfer, is it 100% sure I’d lose all of that tisch scholarship? Should I just suffer through and double major so I at least keep that extra 66k? I can definitely not afford to stay at NYU without it, but is it worth it to stay in a major I don’t enjoy? I love NYU and I realize double majoring might be my only choice, but would it be worth it?
You would need to ask at NYU.
My kid received a performance award at BU. If he had switched majors, he would have lost the award.
YMMV at NYU…so ask there…but your awards is a TISCH award…but do ask.
If your scholarship is specifically from Tisch, then you will most likely lose the scholarship if you leave Tisch. You will probably need to talk with financial aid about your packaging.
I would not switch unless you’re 100% sure you’d keep the merit.
A need-based package from NYU would be unaffordable; you might have to do an external transfer. Keep your scholarship and double/major or add a minor. You can always go to social work grad school, which you’d need to do anyways to work in the field.
