Hi,
i'll start by apologizing as i don't know whether or not this is the proper forum for such a thread-If so pls let me know.

I'm a high school graduate from Israel and I'd is to study at a good college(my dream is MIT but i guess i should be realistic...)

Here are my stats:
1)I have good "Bagrut" grades(the Israeli matriculation exams).

2)Between the ages of 12-16 i attended courses at the Israeli open university towards a B.A in Biology alongside full grown students and achieved good grades(since i also studied at school the number of courses per semester was limited but by the end of it i completed about a years' and a half worth of college I reckon- I do not have a B.A

3) As a Prerequisite for attending Israeli university I had the taek the AMIR test of English proficiency(I was told it's considered an equivalent to the TOEFL) at age 13 and aced it with a prefect score.

Here are some major issues:

1)In Israeli high schools extracurricular clubs and activities are not as diverse and well funded as they are in the states. So it's save to say that I have nothing to show for in that respect.

2)Since I took the AMIR at age 13 i'm pretty sure the test result will be invalid.

So i hope you can help me realize my dream, I'll do anything and for however long it takes to get into a decent US college, but i need more info such as procedures, test to take, volunteering to do etc.

with thx,
a would-be American

Ok…

You’re a bio major? with about 3 semesters of credit?

Did you ever take the SAT?

Are you pre-med?

What can you afford to pay?

You have a lot of college-level credits, so you may be considered a transfer applicant. You need to make an appointment with the counselors at the Tel Aviv office of EducationUSA [EducationUSA - Center Profile - U.S. - Israel Educational Foundation](http://www.educationusa.info/Fulbright-TelAviv) They are the experts at helping Israeli students find good places to study in the US. You also should read through all of the information for undergraduate students at [EducationUSA | Study Abroad, Student Visa, University Fairs, College Applications and Study in the U.S. / America](http://www.educationusa.info/) This will give you good ideas.

If you click on “Discussion Home” in the upper-left of this screen, and then scroll down, you can find the International Student Forum. There is a lot of useful information for you there.

thx a lot guys!!!

i’ll be sure to check all those things out

i’m not pre-med, i took biology and chemistry as major subjects in high school( in the high schools i know of in Israel you have to chose one major and you can add an extra one for extra credit)

i didn’t take the SAT.

And due i do have that college credit, I doubt my early grades will be sufficient as a transfer applicant. I just hoped it might help in the Biographical part as to proving drive to the Biological sciences.(and just maybe spare me a quiz or too…)

and as for the finances - even due my parents both have good jobs and we’re a upper middle class family I have two elder brothers in graduate school(one of them abroad) and a twin who’ll probably start his higher education soon enough.
so i’m guessing that full Ivy league tuition will crush them…but from what I’ve heard MIT has a need-blind admission process right?

If you took all of those classes before you finished high school, some colleges and universities in the US will allow you to apply as a first year student (freshman). Other colleges and universities will require you to apply as a transfer, even if you completed the classes while you were still in high school because of the number of college credits you have earned. You have to ask each of them what their specific policy is.

If you took any of the college classes after finishing high school, you almost certainly will be required to apply as a transfer student, although some colleges/universities might let you apply as a first year student if you didn’t earn a lot of credits after high school.

So you see that your situation is complicated. You need more expert help than you can get here.

It will cost you roughly USD 30,000 to USD 50,000 each year to come here to study. If your family doesn’t have that kind of money, you are better off to complete your undergraduate education in Israel.
