I’m applying from an Asian international school, but I was wondering who are the admissions officers reviewing my application. Alumni? The official admission officer for my region at the universities I’m applying to? Recent graduates?
Are they the only one? Also, I’m guessing the schools I’m applying to gets thousands from my region (Asia) alone. Does that mean the admissions officer for Asia has to review all of them?
Depends on the college. Some colleges have 2 readers. But yes, however the college divides the regions , the same AO (or pair) will read all the applications from that region.
IF alums are involved it is to do informational interviews. They send in a recommendation, but a positive review carries very little weight (a negative one can have more impact).
If there are “thousands” from Asia they will have enough AOs, or split Asia into different regions. (NYU as an example of somewhere that does get thousands of Asian applications splits Asia among, i think, 4 different AOs according to region within Asia.)
