I'm planning to apply to all the Ivies for 2009 and I'm an international applicant from Australia. Yale's my first choice and I'm just wondering whether these schools have quotas to fill for countries/regions for international applicants? Also, there isn't much opportunities for ECs in Australia (not overly populated country so there's not much organisations/activities) compared to what there seems to be in the US, do they take that into account?

are u kidding me mate? Australia has a lot of scope for ECs...u cannot use the fact that Aus is not densely populated as a logical explanation behind ur theory that Aus does not have any opportunities for ECs. Maybe not as many when compared to the US, but then again, if u compare it to a other academic countries like Korea, China and India, then Aus has an array of EC opportunities. in fact, most admission panels treat aus as a country WITH EC opportunities.

but to answer your qs, YES they will take ur environment into account

I meant no ECs as compared to the US, from which the majority of applicants to US colleges would be. But I guess you're right, compared to the Asian countries, Australia would seem to have lots more opportunities. But then I have a friend who goes to school in Korea, whose school offers so many opportunities for ECs, from Spanish club to kendo club etc.
