International Business?

Before I start, I would like to point out the fact that I'm a soon-to-be sophomore in high school, and that I may draw some [constructive] criticism for thinking about MBA or anything related so soon. I have to admit that I am quite excited to start planning my future (I actually started looking at colleges in the 7th grade). I really would appreciate your advice, and I hope that I am posting this in the right place as well...

I would like to do International Business. I've always loved learning about different cultures and meeting people from around the world as well as taking on responsibilities (like ones that come with business management). Next year (August 2012, my junior year) I'm going to study abroad in Japan, which is where I would also like to have a career as an adult. I was listening to a man speak about International Business and how he's living/working in Japan now because of it, and after doing some research I'm considering maybe going through with that profession.

I'm thinking of taking 2 years of community college to get my associate's degree and then transferring to Florida International University as an undergraduate for 2 years to get my Bachelor of Business Administration and to major in International Business.

After that, I was planning on going to the University of Texas at Austin to receive a master's degree in business management.

*Quick Synopsis- I would like to have a degree in International Business, and I specifically would like to live and work in Japan. Is International Business a good career to go into, or would it be wise to switch? Is the career that I have planned out (so far) okay? What else would you like to suggest (internships, etc.)?
Thanks!

If you want to do international business in Japan for a living, then you will need both a good degree in business, and preferably also a good working knowledge of Japan and Japanese. Now, you could do this by taking Japanese as a minor, but I doubt you will reach a particularly high level without spending some time in Japan.

I would suggest that you may want to consider doing your degree program in Japan. Nowadays, many of the top universities have a program called Global 30, which allows foreign students to complete their education in English in Japan (of course, you are also taught Japanese). My own university has one of the best Economics departments in Japan, and also the G30 program. In your 3rd year of our economics program you would go and do an internship with a large Japanese company, which would probably hire you after graduation (if you work hard, of course!) With our program you will get your first year free, then will pay only about half what you would pay in a comparable US university. We also have a G30 MBA, which you might choose to do after your degree.

Japanese companies are really starting to internationalise, so there has never been a better time to get in! Good luck.
