International Engineering Program (IEP)

I spoke with the Director of the IEP program and she said that BME has a foundation in Electrical Engineering, and that I'm able to apply for internships at EE and BME/Biotech companies in which ever country I choose (I'm thinking of France). I was wondering if I end up getting my BS in BME through the IEP program, will I be open up to more job opportunities in America and France, in comparison to a person who has a BS in BME w/o a foundation in Electrical Engineering? Or should I just major in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering (leaning more towards EE) through IEP, then get my masters in BME, just in case? I was already aiming to get my masters in BME, but what if I decide not to and I'm left with just a BS in BME with the foundation in EE or what if I'm left with a BS in EE/ME?

If I do decide to get a BS in EE/ME I'm thinking strongly about doing a minor in Biomedical Engineering.

Hello,
I am currently a student doing the iep at uri. I am doing the mechanical and german path so I am not 100% sure on BME in France. From my understanding doing the program opens up doors to both employment in the US and abroad. Having worked for a company international(possible in there home country) is definitely a resume booster. I have meet a few engineers here that are currently working in Germany for the company they interned with. I am not sure about the major choose. I have read online that a BME undergrad might not be the best choice because employers don’t know what to make of the major because it is so new. I also heard that they give preference to mech/ee’s but I am not 100% positive on this. However I heard with a masters in BME those problems go away. I would avoid doing the program in Spain though. I know of a few people that are having trouble getting internships there and most of them in spain tend to be unpaid. If you have more questions let me know and i will try to help.

@dups68‌ thanks for replying! just from your perspective, what do you think of the iep program? is it well established? do you know anyone who’s studying BME or EE in the iep program? what do they think of it?
