Hello there!
I was wondering:
- Is an unweighted GPA of 3.90 competitive? (Not guaranteed admission or anything -I realise that-, but is there a point in applying with a score like this?)
- How does MIT assess international qualifications? I am having a hard time evaluating whether or not I can compete with other applicants.
- If my grades are average (MIT standard), to what degree can near-perfect SAT subject test scores compensate for this?
If you want to know, my grades are (1 to 6, where 6 is best):
15 x grade 5
9 x grade 6 (maths, psychology level 1 and 2, chemistry level 1 and 2, biology level 2, geography, ethics, history)
Thank you very much.

Vildeung, nobody knows. Really truly, nobody knows, not even the admissions officers. Grades are a truly mysterious thing. There are schools where more than half of each class gets an A. Often these are expensive schools, and the parents are paying for their kids to do well, and so the school ensures that they do. There are schools where 5% of each class gets an A. There is no such thing as universally recognised definition of an A, particularly with international applicants. But MIT sees a lot of applications from a lot of schools around the globe. They know a lot of schools around the globe and how to interpret a GPA from that school. But nobody can give you an empirically correct answer to your question.
