International High School GPA -How to convert.

Hi,

Most US Universities 'International Admissions' page usually mention a required minimum GPA on a 4.0 scale to be considered for admission. This is further complicated when one considers the difference in levels of education across differing international curricular.

I've looked online line for some sort of conversion tool or chart, but it is difficult to ascertain which are accurate and/or credible.

So, if anyone can help me answer the following questions:

What are some good resources that I could use for conversion that are credible?

Some schools ask for entire HS record from all years. I have matriculated many years ago and these are almost impossible to attain. What do they usually do in such situations?

If I recieve a grade of F for a subject (second Language), will it still be calculated in my GPA - i.e. If I took six subjects in HS and got an F for one, but A's and B's for the others, will I still have to divide by six to get my GPA? I've read somewhere that I would only have to divide by 5 as the F has no value and must be repeated.

I don’t know where you’re applying, but if you’re using/going to use commonapp than it’s quite simple. You don’t need to convert anything, it has different scales so you can adjust.
For example in my country we use 10 scale system and I had no problem writing my GPA down in 10 scale system (It was 9.8 which I believe translates into 4.0, but you’re not the one doing translation).
Also my official transcript, to my knowing, was also submitted with actual scores varying from 1 to 10 and not converted into USA system.
