I'm interested in UNC, and I'm also interested in studying international relations, but I haven't heard UNC talked about in that field as much as I've heard about many other top colleges. That's not to say that I don't think UNC has a strong international relations program; Fiske lists it as a top program, and I've personally seen the new global studies building when I toured campus.

In short, I was hoping simply for more information about any special programs, and I would particularly love to hear from any current students.

Thanks in advance for your time.

Do you know what region you’re thinking about studying? I have a few friends (including cloying, who posts here relatively frequently) that are studying Chinese that have high praise for it, and I’m involved in the Arabic program and could rave about it for a while too.

Also, you should check out the Peace, War, and Defense department. It’s awesome.

I’m interested in East Asian Studies. I have studied abroad in Japan, and I speak Japanese pretty darn well (though not fluently). I have long considered learning Chinese, too, though, due to the fact that Chinese and Japanese share so many characters.
