International Relations major but thinking of business

Well, my question really is about the area of concentration/languages required in my major. I'm studying Japanese right now and I plan to continue. It makes sense that I concentrate of Asia. The problem is that my interest is not particularly exclusive in Asia and I really want to delve into othe cultures (Europe, South Americas, etc.) as well. Somehow I'm having a fantasy of concentrating in European studies but continuing in studying Asian languages (or other combinations). I'm worried that if I do this, I'd totally overgeneralize my already general major and that this might hurt me in being a competitive job applicant later.

I've decided to venture in international business or maybe even in consulting. Ideally, I'd be working for a European company dealing in Asian business. I understand the idiosyncratic nature of my career goal so I keep an open mind.

Is my interest reasonable or should I stick to one area of specialization/languages?

Spoon,
One thing you must know is that language are always helpful to know, the more fluent the better. So If you think that you can take Japanese and get to a relatively high level and another language along with your studies, go for it. I have taken French and German, and employers are interested in that (from my exp in job interviews).

I would try to focus on one region though–you could work for a company like Toyota or there are some jobs in business that requires eng/jap bi-fluency (I have seen them on Monster).

From one International major to another, it will be fine. Just plan like heck for what you WANT to study, and it will all come together when you graduate.

Thanks rubies7. I guess I’ll just focus on Asia.
