What is BC’s international rep like? I’m interested in going into international business so I’d like to go to a school that is recognized internationally. Just taking a look at the QS World rankings puts it far behind UMich (#14) and NYU (#44), which are the other schools I’m considering. Why is BC so low at #349? It would be helpful if you could be specific about CSOM’s rep. Thanks!

QS world rankings are irrelevant. they only look at faculty publications. thats why the big universities like NYU and Mich do so well.

Then only a handful of US colleges should be of interest, led by Wharton and MIT-Sloan. Add in Cal-Haas, Michigan-Ross, NYU-Stern, Northwestern and few others, and your list is complete.

Other than a top xx, undergrad biz is mostly regional. BC has a great reputation in the NE. Out in SoCal, USC-Marshall has a similar rep. Neither rank high on the international scale.

And the obvious answer to BC’s ranking on the QS list is that BC is not a scientific research powerhouse. Like many small colleges, it focuses more on liberal arts than hustling research dollars. All international rankings are research-focused and thus, even highly regarded colleges like Dartmouth don’t score highly (since Dartmouth doesn’t have that many grad/research programs).

You can add Notre Dame, Georgetown, Emory to that list as well.

What I understand is that most international university rankings are primarily focused on graduate program in the empirical sciences. BC doesn’t even have an engineering department, which I think speaks for itself in regards to its QS placement.
