International Student 3.4 GPA (unweighted)

Hi everyone :)

I am an Iraqi-Swedish student. I was born in Baghdad, Iraq but I live in Sweden :)

I am really interested in studying International Relations. I was born in Iraq, but I have lived in Sweden most of my life. My parents are pretty religious (muslims), and my friends and everybody else I know are very secular. So you can pretty much say that I have grown up in two different worlds.

I am tired of all the conflicts between the west and the middle-east. I would love the role of some kind of mediator :)

anyways,

3.4 GPA (unweighted)
I was lazy my first year, didn't realize what I had :/ however since then I have gotten almost straight A's
SAT: 2210

Math:800
Writing:710
CR: 700

Class Rank: 3rd in my class.

EC:
Member of my high schools panel on climate change.
Captain of my soccer team for more than a year.
Active member of the red-cross youth in Sweden.
I won a small scolarship from my school for being good at math :P hehe
I have studied mathemathics in college (during the summers when my friends were having fun ;P to get extra credit )

Langages : Arabic, Swedish, English and a bit French (3 years of studies)

I have a recommendation letter from 2 teachers. (it was written jointly)

I do NOT need any financial aid. :)

So my final question is this,

Can I get into a good U.S university? We don't have colleges that offer international relations degrees in Sweden.

What are my chances to get admitted? I am interested in Tufts University and all the other IR schools.

Please give me advice on other universities too :)

I appreciate all the help :D Thank you.

btw my TOEFL score is coming later :P

I think you have a chance at good colleges on the level of Tufts because of your upward grade trend and the fact that you don’t need financial aid.

ok thank you  Want me to chance back? Obviously you are a senior member so maybe there’s not much I can do :/

Btw what other schools can I get into? and what other schools offer good IR(International Relations) programs?

Look at Georgetown SFS, which is hard to get into but arguably the best for International Relations anywhere. Fletcher is great too and you have a decent shot at Tufts. Another good but fairly underrated university in the world of undergraduate education in International Relations is Johns Hopkins. In Liberal Arts Colleges, Macalester and Middlebury have really great International Relations programmes. Are you applying for Fall 2011? You should also get two separate letters of recommendation, but you still have time for that.
