International student: Chances at a decent linguistics program?

What are my chances at grad school?

I’m an international student, coming from Austria. I’ve finished my BA in Modern Languages with the equivalent a GPA of 3.89. I’m fluent in three languages (German, English, Icelandic) and know nine more. I’m currently doing my MA in the same field (which I should finish in late 2012) and would like to do a second Master in General Linguistics at an American university before doing my Ph.D. in Linguistics. I eventually want to go into academia.

I haven’t done much in the ways of research yet – few people here do research at the MA level, and I’m only doing one reasearch project the results of which I’m going to incorporate in my MA thesis - but I’ve done other interesting things. Prior to attending university I’ve lived and worked in an Indian reserve for a while, I’m going to Finnland for a semester in early 2012 and I plan on attending the University of the Faroe Islands in the summer of 2012 which should increase the amount of languages I know to thirteen. I’ve also done professional translations from/to Icelandic, and I have some experience as a language instructor. I’m also the first member of my family to go to university.

Would I stand a chance at getting into a decent linguistics program? Would my age affect my chances negatively? I just turned 30. Due to extremely serious health problems in my early twenties that have fortunately been resolved I had to drop out of university the first time and was unable to go back until I was 26. Those health problems are also the reason why the GPA on my BA isn’t a perfect 4.0 (I have two Bs and a C somewhere in there). I’m aiming for all As for my first MA though which should count for something.

No GRE results yet, but I’m counting on a halfway acceptable score. My LORs should be solid as well (I’m going to ask the head of my department for one – I have straight As in his courses).
