Hi everyone!
I’m a biracial female and a junior from Saudi Arabia.
I speak English, Turkish, French, and Arabic. My SAT superscore is 2250 (math 720, CR 750, writing 780). I self-studied and took four AP courses this year (psych, microecon, Eng lang, and French), and hope to do more next year, expecting a 4 or above in all of them. 700 in SAT II English lit.
My ECs include Grade 4 in ABRSM piano, tutoring elementary school kids, and several international MUN conferences along with being SG of our school’s conference. I’m passionate about animal/human rights, and I want to do international relations as an undergrad for law. I will also be attending TASP this summer.
Do I have a shot at Harvard/Columbia/Yale/Stanford/Princeton? If not, what do you recommend I can do in my senior year to help myself out?
Forgot to mention- GPA is 4.33, or about 97-98%.
I will be doing three SAT IIs this June 6th but I’m not expecting a miracle as I didn’t have time to study much.
TASP will give you a really huge boost. All you need to do now is to keep up the good grades, write excellent essays and get really good recs.
Best of luck
All those colleges attract the most gifted and accomplished students in the world, and so the odds are against everyone. The acceptance rates for international students is brutally low, but - as a woman from the Middle East - you might have a better chance than your male counterparts. Good luck! Just be sure to cast a wider net than the Ivy League, unless you are happy with your safety-net options at home.
Ivy Leagues have very low admit rates for international applicants. However, TASP should definitely give you a strong chance. Make sure to keep getting straight A’s. I would also aim for lower Ivies and good public schools. Best of luck.
I would say they are very low, that’s just how it is.
However, your demographic/country of origin and the piano playing and language skills might be more attractive to one of the top liberal arts colleges. Being a Saudi woman gives you a real edge at the top schools for women, for obvious reasons.
Focus on that group. Generally these schools are in the northeast USA close to NY, Boston and Philadelphia but they are scattered about the country.
Wellesley, Smith, Bryn Mawr and the top coed schools I think would find you a priority applicant.
Which program are you going?
I would think a much better shot than an average applicant as you have shown in some way that you are outstanding through your acceptance into TASP.
You basically picked the 5 most selective schools in the nation. You should probably look for matches and safeties as basically nobody is guaranteed admission into even one of those 5 schools.
Write good essays, that’s all I can say. Write meaningful essays that you think accurately portray your personality and passion.
Thank you everyone for your kind and realistic answers
I’ll keep one or two of these as my dream schools and apply to three or four more realistic choices!
I’d say you have a shot at getting into one, but unlikely to be chosen by all.
While your grades are excellent, SATs are average for those top schools and SAT IIs probably below. Your EC’s are fairly weak-- Grade 4 piano is not really good enough to be a part of any music at college, and MUN and tutoring are pretty commonplace-- and, of course, being international makes everything a whole lot harder (and if you need FA…).
HOWEVER, you are obvious a pretty unique candidate. Languages, nationalities, experience at TASP-- all of these should boost your app. Try to do something to show your passion in your major, and I think you should be looking at acceptances from fine universities.
