You have a fine “resume” as it is. I’m wondering if colleges will wonder WHY you took a year off of school. Make sure you have a better reason than “it was Oxford or bust” if they ask.

My parents aren’t completely against the idea of paying $60,000+. Obviously fees are much lower in the UK (all universities cost exactly the same), so they’d prefer for me to stay in the UK if I get into Oxford, but if I were to get into top schools in the US and not get into Oxford (which happens with quite a lot of UK students) they’re saying paying wouldn’t be an issue. I guess the problem is more or less solved.

oh brother! So all the whining about London costs, private schools, etc, was just a lot of BS? Your parents, with all of their money and assets aren’t against paying $60k per year.
Thank you! A lot of people do not seem to understand this!
That goes without saying. Languages are my main area of study. I will be spending time abroad teaching English, volunteering etc. I have planned what I am going to do, so regardless of whether I get into Oxford/top US schools or not, what I’m doing will still be worthwhile
No. My original point was that paying $60k+ would be more of a struggle.

You have to understand, Domini, that a large number of US families live on $60k/year or less. The people on this thread work very hard to help many students whose family’s yearly income is less than what you can pay out of pocket for school. Surely you can understand their frustration that students who have so much still want to come here and ask our schools to give them more.
Dude, go to UCL. It IS on par with oxbridge - what is more, QS World university ranking rank them 5th in the world (tied with oxford)! The only american schools ranked better are harvard and MIT. Your parents have paid for your private school your entire life - give 'em a break, will ya, and pay 9k instead of 60k. They’ll appreciate it. UCL is amazing
@redhat12, it really depends on majors and goals. Rankings are a poor way to compare universities (especially across countries). I can see areas where UCL may not measure up depending the OP’s goals. Unfortunately, the OP has not indicated anything about goals or majors.
Glad it all worked out! Good luck!
