I am from the UK and I really want to get in Princeton. I plan to take my SATS at a testing centre in London and do some volunteer work, but can you give me any other advice as to how to stand out? Also, I will be revising for my SATS myself, so are there any tutors/websites you can recommend?

You tell yourself how you can stand out. What makes you special in your group of friends? Why do people like you? Do others find you insightful? Do you love helping people? What are your passions, academic and nonacademic? Do you have an amazing story to tell about your life? Don’t get too personal, don’t talk about things that still bring tears to your eyes, but other than that, don’t be afraid to go all out. Show them who you are! Speak from your heart in your essays, and you don’t have to tell them that you are smart, they can see that from your grades and scores. Show them what your scores can’t show them, and be brutally honest. Don’t try to make stuff up, because trust me, they’ll see right through it. Be genuine! That’s how you’ll stand out.

That’s my problem - I don’t know what makes me stand out. Everyone applying to Princeton has good great and great SAT scores. I don’t know what else they’re looking for… xxxx

@sophbob, that’s where the ECs and Essays come in. Be sure you nail those by giving the adcom people an impressive profile to read. That’s how you stand out from the pile of good & great SAT scores.

Keep in mind that Princeton (and every other top university) looks for an excellent all around student and not a test-taking machine.
