international studies?

what is international studies anyway?
i know it involves sociology econ history and whatever but it basically sounds really vague with a bit of everything

and how come none of the ivies offer international studies? i mean, not even ONE.
is this some weird pseudo-internationalrelations-ish major? (nothing against IR, i just thought international studies sounded like an imitation)

btw i'm planning to go on to law school... do they like intl studies majors? (i'd guess not tho)

Law schools like any major.

Woodrow Wilson at Princeton and the Huntsman program at Penn are prbly the best IR programs in the country on (or above) par with Gtown SFS, Tufts, ect.

^ uh yeah, i know what the best IR programs are but i'm not so sure about international studies (which, i understand, is different from international relations) but thanks anyway.

so back to... what do you do in international studies??????

Law school likes all types of majors, assuming that you get good grades and are motivated and do well on the LSATs. They seek a diverse group of applicants, and I don't see why being an international studies major would put you at an disadvantage compared to being a history of polisci major, as all of these liberal arts majors focus on writing and analytical abilities.

At Hopkins the International Studies major is pretty much the official name for what people commonly refer to as the international relations major. I rarely hear people mention international studies, rather than just "IR" when referring to their major. Its a interdisciplinary major that requires you to take classes in economics, history, and political science, much like all good IR majors do. I'm not sure if its different for different universities, but in my experience, some schools call it international studies while others call it international relations, but in the end, you pretty much end up studying the same subjects.
