International transfer

Hi I'm an Indian Student and in my first year of college at Delhi University. I'm going to complete my second semester in 2 months.

I wanted to know my chances of transferring to Babson, University if Richmond and Villanova.

I have a college GPA of 3.75, the highest in college. I have academic distinctions 9very prestigious, its very RARE) in 3 out of 4 subjects I had in my 1st semester.

My high school GPA is around a 3.6, also one of the highest.

I am a national level shooter. I have tons of community work, work experience and other activities. In addition, I've started my own business which I'm currently running.

Honestly, what are my chances of getting in?

I would say your chances are as good as the next capable candidate. I say this because remember all those who apply for transfer know they have to be extermely competitive because the slots are few and applicants number is high and that makes it very difficult for colleges to narrow down their selection as well.

I am sure you would already be familiar with the rules of engagement, so to say, but if you are not let me give you the links,

[Babson Transfer | Undergraduate Transfer | Transfers | Babson College](Transfer Student Admission | Babson College)
At Babson you are competing against a pool of 300+ for 50+slots, so your chances are 16.6%.

“Transfer Students
Babson College welcomes transfer applications for the fall and spring semesters. We generally enroll 50 students for the fall. For the fall of 2012, we received 352 transfer applications and enrolled 53 transfer students. The average GPA of admitted students was a 3.7/4.0 scale.”

[For Transfer Students | Villanova University](http://www1.villanova.edu/villanova/admission/overview/transfer.html)
At Villanova you will be asssessed on following criteria, against a pool of 250+ applicatants for 50 slots, giving you a 20% chance,

“Transfer application candidates are selected for admission on the basis of individual merit as determined by their complete college coursework and an evaluation by the Dean of Students at the last college attended. An applicant’s high school record and class standing, standardized tests scores, extracurricular involvement and essay are also considered.”

[Transfer Students - Undergraduate Admission - University of Richmond](http://admissions.richmond.edu/process/transfer.html)
And at University of Richmond you will be be competing against 250 transfer applications for 50 spaces in the fall semester - again making your chances a 20%, and evaluated on the basis of,

"Transfer students are evaluated for admission on the basis of:

College coursework: We look at how well the applicant’s completed coursework will satisfy the University of Richmond’s general education requirements. Applicants do not need to meet all requirements before enrolling at Richmond, but completing a large number of requirements increases the likelihood of admission.

College grade point average (GPA): Students must maintain a college GPA of 2.0 to be considered for admission. However, most successful applicants have GPAs above 3.0.

Passion for learning: We want to see that transfer students are passionate learners. This is best communicated through essays and recommendation letters. Extracurricular involvement, leadership skills, special talents, personal qualities, and life experiences all help tell a story about a student who will contribute to the University community.

College-level recommendation: We want to see how the transfer applicant performs in the classroom and around campus from the perspective of a professor or other college official.

Timing: We typically receive around 250 transfer applications for 50 spaces in the fall semester. The applicant pool for the spring semester is smaller, with approximately 100 applicants applying for 10 spaces. Keep in mind that first-year students cannot apply for spring admission.

High school information: Transfer applicants must submit their final high school transcript for evaluation. The weight placed on the high school transcript varies based on the amount of completed college work—it becomes less important as more college coursework is completed.

Standardized tests: While SAT and ACT test results are not required of transfer applicants, students are welcome to submit their scores if they believe they’ll be helpful in the application review process. Once students enroll at Richmond, they will need to send official scores for any testing that would exempt them from general education requirements.

English proficiency: Non-native English speakers must demonstrate English proficiency. Applicants may submit the results of their TOEFL exam, results of the verbal portion of the SAT I, or a college transcript that demonstrates success in a college-level English composition course.

Basic proficiencies: All transfer students must have completed mathematics through at least Algebra II and at least two years of the same foreign language. If those requirements were not met in high school, they must have been met at the college level."

So when you write your High School GPA of 3.6 is one of the highest, your school counsellor should highlight that specifically. Your grades in context of the rest of the class. Same will hold true for your college GPA as well.

As a parent and somebody who has been here for sometime and spent a considerable time asking questions here on CC, reading and researching on the net and based on the comments on various acceptance decision threads, I would have to say the essays play a very important role in giving a face to the numbers on your application.

I would have to say that all things being equal, the essays will make the most difference. They give you a window to show the real person behind all those achievements, sensitivity, adaptability, your eagerness to learn and challenge yourself. So seize that and market and package yourself in the most honest, sincere and simple way.

And the second factor, in my mind, your sincerity, motivation and passion
for applying to a particular college for Transfer. How and why, you think, it is a “best fit” for you. And for that in each of your Essays and LORs, you should be focussing on individual college’s Transfer Requirements and show your strengths in those areas.

Your ECs must highlight your learning, how it has moulded your personality and vision through a particular incident or conflict or anything striking that made you think and evolve as a person.

Basically your “Take-away” from these activities is what colleges are looking for.

As a shooter, you should be able to highlight the hard work, focus, time committment and dicipline that was demanded of you to get to that level.

The real world ethics and twists you imbibed during your business venture.
