Internationals and ECs?

Hi, I'm I a Danish student considering applying for college in the US for the Class of 2013.

I have a question regarding extracurricular activities and their importance in the admissions process. When I browsed through some random Stats Profiles for applicants to some of the universities I also want to apply to, I was struck with how impressive their EC record was. From community service to memberships of all kinds of school organizations.

In Denmark, we have an enormous welfare system that takes care of the elderly, sick and homeless, so it almost only possible to volunteer with organizations operating aborad - in Africa, Asia and so on, which I could not afford. Furthermore, there are very limited options for involvement in student organizations (besides student government), as there is no tradition for political organizations, clubs, or honor societies in any way in Denmark. Sports are not played within the framework of school, and there are no serious academic summer camps to speak of.

The only things I can put on my resum

just write them a note in your application and ask your counselor to do the same stating that people in your school do not have many possibilities to do ECs...

it also depends on the university that u apply to..some give too much emphasis on the ECs while some of the colls just consider it..
and in your case, it must be the similar situation for other people appying from your country and so you wont have a huge relative disadvantage (and also note that big colleges are always looking for the "world diversity" inside their campus)
