Hello CC community (or whoever bothered to read this, thank you)
It has come to my attention…that I would like to participate in an internship. I feel like it would be fun to see how real-life works, and understand.
However, I have two major dilemmas in my situation.
- I don’t know WHAT I want to intern in. Internet searches tell me to pick an interest, but I can’t narrow it past down to business or science.
- I don’t know my connections (never had a conversation with them, except for my dad), and how to go for it.
My dad works at a hospital, and I haven’t confronted him about this, but I probably should. I don’t know if the hospital offers any meaningful internships though, and the research center at the hospital does have a bunch of professor emails…but I guess I’m just kind of afraid to go for it.
Also, a lot of my friends’ parents are professors, medical personnel, or research scientists at universities like Penn and Temple. I just feel like I’d trouble their lives asking for them to reach out FOR me, and get some connections connected…
I suppose that just sums it all up into my fear of even starting.
It would be nice to just have some advice on what to do. I’m very confused. Or, if you know of any internship opportunities in the Philly area, that would also be good to know about.
Additional Information that’s probably relevant
-I’m 13 years old right now, and won’t turn 14 for a couple months, and I am pretty sure this is not too young, because I know several people that have snagged internships at this age, and are currently participating in it.
-I live in the suburban Philly area.
Sorry if this post is blatantly ignorant, or weird. Thank you for anyone that responds.
