Hi guys,
I am currently a junior and intend to major in CS.
Now, I have been invited over for internship by a few firms(mostly startups). Should I invest the time and intern at their office?
They expect me to spend atleast 15 hours a week. Given I have a very tight school schedule, I am contemplating whether I should spend the time.
An answer with regards to the “usefulness” of internships for “college admission” will make it easier for me to decide.
IMO, work experience is always a positive. However, only you can decide if you have 15 hours/week to devote and keep your grades up. Is it possible for you to just work for one of these companies next summer between junior and senior year?
Yeah, intend to work for only one company. But, 15 hrs is a lot of time.
So, do you think it would positively add to my application?
Also, should I request a letter that evaluates my skills by one of the company’s managers.
I think work experience is a positive to any young person’s resume.
Do not start worrying about extra letters! The last thing adcoms want is extra stuff to read.
Another quick question, how helpful is working with a local college professor in CS. At the end, I can ask him for a letter of recommendation or evaluation certificate.
Ok, just ignore the second half of the above question, I just read your response.
