interview tips

hey, my alumni interview is coming up like a couple of weeks, for those of you who have already had an interview for ED, what tips do u have? (i'm so worried since it's my first interview :(

For any interview, remember to relax as much as you can. Your interviewer is a real person, and she won't be trying to trip you up or interrogate you. It's generally a good idea to have a list of questions ready--things you want to know about the campus, the way the school functions, the opportunities available to students, etc. You might want to ask her about an experience she might have had at Wellesley ... she's unlikely to be a recent alumna, but some things haven't changed much. For instance, you could ask about the role of traditions on campus and what her favorite tradition was. Something that breaks the ice while still showing an interest in the school works beautifully.

Write your questions down, if you're worried about forgetting them. If you can, tailor your questions to the school. Show that you've done some research--work details into the interview that help establish a connection between the two of you. For instance, President Walsh is stepping down at the end of this academic year, so there's a presidential search in progress. The alum is bound to have opinions about this :-)

Really, it's not scary--just don't feel as though you're there to answer questions and undergo microscopic scrutiny. It's absolutely a two-way dialogue!

My interview experiences at all the schools I interviewed for was that the interviewer liked to tell you it was all really an opportunity to ask her questions about the school. So have some. Or make some up. Otherwise be prepared to talk about school subjects you like and after school stuff you do that interests you. Ask the alumna what she did at Wellesley.

thanks! i'll be sure to write down the questions and i've already done research about wellesley :)

ahhhh :) i just had my interview today, hopefully i did well and i just want to say good luck to all the other girls!
