Interview

Having my interview in a few hours ... feeling nervous. :S

Any tips on how to handle it?

not to sound cliche but...be yourself...speak confidently, dont stutter, dont interrupt the interviewer, LISTEN...worst thing is for the interviewer to be talking to you and you are busy trying to think up something to say and totally missing what he/she was saying. Also, the usual, eye contact and smile etc...just be natural.

When thinking of my interview, in retrospect, it would've been nice having an activity resume in hand. My interviewer didn't ask for one, but at the beginning of our interview, he asked me a lot of questions about my ECs, test scores, and school grades. It can't hurt to have one ready.

Also, don't feel intimidated if your interviewer isn't particularly responsive. You may start getting that sinking feeling halfway through the interview (or even earlier when you see that your interviewer hasn't smiled at all), but don't let that keep your enthusiasm from shining through. I must've looked like an idiot being so excited and smiling so much compared to my interviewer's expressionlessness, but at least I made my interest in the school obvious.

My interviewer asked me a question that I hadn't prepared for (If you could change one thing at your high school, what would it be?). I gave a pretty lame answer, and I was definitely beating myself up for it afterwards. But try not to let that get to you if you get that sort of feeling.

Tips--do your homework and figure out how to convince the interviewer that you want to go to Columbia and have good reasons for that. You're not going to change your personality in 2 hours.

Questions like this are lame. Nobody's going to say what they really believe, like "fire my English teacher because she can't teach, she's a giant b---- and everyone in the class hates her."
